Children's Sunday

Today was Children's Service. Thank you to: greeter and bell ringer- Jasmine; candle lighters and collection -Sage and Sydney; readers- Jasmine,Kara and Jessica; organist- Liz

We talked about "welcome" today. ... the ways we welcome people in our homes and in our church. I did some scenarios for the children to decide if I was welcoming or not welcoming. We shared how it feels to be in a situation where we are not welcome.
We shared stories about wearing sandals in the summer and how our feet look at the end of the day.Welcome, in Jesus' day, meant water was brought and someone washed washed your feet. Jesus was a guest at Simon's house but he was not welcomed in this polite way. A woman, who had made some mistakes in her life that the whole town knew about, welcomed Jesu by washing His feet with her tears and drying them with her hair. She was so happy to be with Him as she knew about God's love and forgiveness.Simon was very upset that THIS woman had come into his home uninvited!Jesus told him the story of the moneylender and the people who owed to him.Their debts were cancelled. So who loved him the most? The one who had the mose forgiven, says Simon. Jesus said that the woman at Simon's house had the most forgiven. SHE made Jesus welcome by her actions and her generous gift of oil. Jesus saw that she had a kind and generous spirit....something God wants each of us to have.MAy we always welcome all we meet. May our words and actions show our welcome.
